NATIONAL POETRY MONTH #6

Getting Over Her

Scott ____

Today I noticed

The azaleas I’d picked from my old backyard

Were dying.

So I dropped them into the kitchen garbage can.

Then I poured the water out of the vases

And wiped them dry

And put them back in place, on the bookshelf.

Then I just sat for a while.

Tomorrow I’ll replace the azaleas

With wisteria

From the overgrown grounds

Of an abandoned house I know.
