8405-langston-hughesI been scarred and battered.

My hopes the wind done scattered.

     Snow has friz me,

     Sun has baked me,

Looks like between ’em they done

     Tried to make me

Stop laughin’, stop lovin’, stop livin’–

     But I don’t care!

     I’m still here!

–Langston Hughes

I can think of no better way to start my first post of 2013 than with the above poem that impressed me, in my childhood, and inspires me today.

I’m still here.  Since Thanksgiving Day (November 22, 2012), the world has been crushing me.  But I’m still here.  Every time I get up, something knocks me down.  But I’m still here.  Perhaps the purpose of life is simply to live as long as one can.  And I’m still alive, I’m still here.
