Another question from Gregory Stock’s book is this:

If there were a subliminal advertising technique so effective it could induce people to make purchases they would otherwise resist, would you want to ban it? 

Yes, I would.

What about an equally effective technique that wasn’t subliminal but was just a great pitch strongly appealing to people’s hopes and fears?

Same answer.
