OUR BEST QUALITIES SHOW BEST WHEN WE’RE NOT TRYING TO SHOW THEM

I just remembered a rare, tender moment from Dallas:  J.R. Ewing, having met his wife Sue Ellen while judging a beauty contest, is answering her question–why he chose her.  He says, “All those other girls were trying to be pretty–but you didn’t have to try.”

I like that.  It’s applicable to everyone in some way, I think.  Our best qualities show best when we’re not trying to show them.
