LUKE 16:15: APPLICATIONS FOR AMERICA TODAY

And he (Jesus) said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

This is one of the most powerful, concise declarations ascribed to Jesus of Nazareth.  In this passage, Jesus is attacking self-righteousness and hypocrisy. Yet he’s also pointing out that what is popular (highly esteemed among men) is not necessarily good–in fact it can be quite evil.  This has very broad applications, worldwide–as it always has.  But I am primarily interested in its applications for the United States–its government and its people.  Is what is popular always wrong?  Is what is popular always evil?  I don’t think so.  But it so often is.  Of course, right and wrong, good and evil–these are subjective terms for us.  For our Creator, they may not be subjective at all–but they’re definitely subjective for us. So it is up to the individual to determine what is wrong, or what is evil–and this is a very difficult, lifelong task.

Yet here are some things (which include groups of people) that are very popular, for so many Americans on different sides (highly esteemed among men), but–in my subjective opinion–very wrong and/or very evil (abomination in the sight of God):

Our government’s political, financial, and military (i.e. weaponry) support of the Zionist State (“Israel”) is highly esteemed among men.

The legacy of U.S. expansionism at the expense of Native Americans (their land confined to tiny reservations, to this day) is highly esteemed among men.

Corporate America’s outsourcing of jobs to foreign countries (taking jobs away from American citizens) is highly esteemed among men.

Excessive usage of mobile devices (particularly while driving) is highly esteemed among men.

Selfishness (particularly in drivers and pedestrians) is highly esteemed among men.

Abortion on demand, and on an industrial scale, is highly esteemed among men.

The Federal Government’s infringement on the rights of the States, and the people of the States–in making same-sex marriage federal law (thereby forcing a redefinition of marriage on an entire nation) is highly esteemed among men.

Religious intolerance–practiced by the anti-religious, as well as the religious–is highly esteemed among men.

The Republican Party is highly esteemed among men.

The Democratic Party is highly esteemed among men.

Reverse discrimination is highly esteemed among men.

Racial, ethnic, and sexual bias in the courts (including hate-crimes legislation) is highly esteemed among men.

Government and corporate censorship of American history is highly esteemed among men.

The exceedingly biased and sensationalist American commercial press is highly esteemed among men.

And fanatical American nationalism is highly esteemed among men.
