Let this be a lesson to you, whoever you are.

My father, Louis Hampton Mayo, died on December 22, 2017—this is the anniversary of his death.

The last time I saw my father alive, police officers ordered me to leave my parents’ property, after my mother called the Mobile Police Department and complained about me.

And the last time I talked with my father, he hung up the phone on me.

Let this be a lesson to you, whoever you are.

You will die, because everyone dies.

And your fellow human beings will remember how you treated them the last time they saw you alive, and the last time they talked with you.
