FROM THE BOQ: BUSINESS, POLITICS AND ETHICS #71

Another question from Gregory Stock’s book is this:

If people in underdeveloped countries were starving because of crop failures and we had no extra grain to send them, would you favor letting them starve or giving them the grain eaten by the livestock we raise?  (Note that some eighteen pounds of grain are consumed for every pound of beef produced.)

Tough question!

I certainly wouldn’t favor letting them starve.

So I’d favor giving them the grain eaten by the livestock we raise–and hope for the best!
