SAY NO TO CENSORSHIP

On June 24, 2015, Republican Pensacola Mayor Ashton Hayward censored the First Confederate Flag from Pensacola’s Five-Flags Displays.  He did this without the consent of his constituents.

Mayor Hayward stated, in a press release:

“While the Confederate Flag undeniably represents a part of Pensacola’s history, to many it is a painful symbol of racial hatred and intolerance.”

Mayor Hayward didn’t mention that the “Confederate Flag” he had censored was not the Confederate Battle Flag—but the First Confederate Flag.  This flag:

On June 25, 2015, Escambia County Democratic Women’s Club President Dianne Krumel made this demand of the Escambia County Commission:

“I understand the flags are down, but I want to make it permanent.  I don’t want any chance of those flags going back up.”

All five members of the Escambia County Commission—Republican Doug Underhill, Republican Grover C. Robinson IV, Republican Steven Barry, Republican Wilson Robertson (whose seat is now occupied by Republican Jeff Bergosh), and Democrat Lumon May—gave in to Dianne Krumel’s demand, and chose to keep the First Confederate Flag censored from Pensacola’s Five-Flags Displays.  They did this without the consent of their constituents—including me.

This government-imposed censorship of the First Confederate Flag, from our historical flags displays, continues—without our consent.

Yet now there is a way you can help me put a stop to this government-imposed censorship of our historical flags displays here in Greater Pensacola, Florida—and you don’t even have to be a resident of Greater Pensacola, Florida, to do it.

I’ve started an online petition to have the First Confederate Flag returned to its rightful place in Pensacola’s Five-Flags Displays:

https://www.change.org/p/pensacola-mayor-ashton-hayward-and-the-escambia-county-board-of-county-commissioners-return-the-first-confederate-flag-to-its-rightful-place-in-pensacola-s-five-flags-displays

Are you as opposed to government-imposed censorship as I am?

Then click on the link above, and sign the petition—and together we can say no to censorship.

AMERICAN FLAGS

We expect our American troops to defend our current American Flag against all foreign enemies.

But if we don’t defend our historical American Flags against all domestic enemies, how can we be worthy of our American troops?

ONE EXTREME CAN BE WORSE THAN ANOTHER

Our liberty and civility are at risk

“Charlottesville, Virginia, was the scene of a bloody riot Aug. 12.  The fray resulted in the death of one woman, who was mowed down by a car; plus there were many other people injured.  Have politicians and the news media told the complete story about what happened, or have Americans been misled?  Let’s look at it.

“One does not have to accept the racist and nationalistic vision of the Unite the Right organization to recognize its First Amendment rights. Moreover, the group obtained a city permit to hold a peaceful rally to protest the lawful removal of the statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee from Emancipation Park.  It was the leftist protesters who did not have a city permit for a rally.  Virginia Gov. Terry McAullife said:  ‘There has got to be a movement in this country to bring people together.  The hatred and rhetoric that has gone on and has intensified over the last couple months is dividing this great nation.’  He denounced the ‘white supremacists and the Nazis.’  However, when asked a question about whether he would include the left-wing, pro-violence antifa in his condemnation, he ignored the question and walked out of the room.

“Here’s a question for you:  Did the authorities of the city of Charlottesville have a duty to protect Unite the Right rally attendees? Both the Unite the Right organizers and the leftist counter-protesters charged that the Charlottesville police did not do their job.  They just stood back and watched.

“The Daily Caller article titled, ‘Why Were The Police Held Back In Charlottesville?’ reports:  ‘Law enforcement was on hand at the dueling demonstrations on Saturday, decked out in riot gear and looking prepared for the worst.  Except they weren’t allowed to do their job.’ Instead of owning up to his dereliction of duty—by not having ordered his police force to protect life and limb—Charlottesville Mayor Mike Signer chose to demagogue the situation by blaming the rise of white nationalists on President Donald Trump.

“Many politicians, racists, hustlers and tyrants have an agenda that consists mostly of making the U.S. Constitution meaningless and giving government greater control over our lives.  The alt-right and white supremacists seek to achieve their goals through racist propaganda.  The leftists seek to achieve their goals by tricking Americans into believing that all they want are brotherhood and multiculturalism.  If either group achieves its goals, we Americans will lose not only our liberty but also our civility.  Few Americans recognize and respect the fact that multiracial societies are inherently unstable.  What we’ve been doing for decades, through various government policies, is stacking up combustible racial kindling awaiting a racial arsonist to set it ablaze.  There are too many historical examples of what happens to a nation when race hustlers are allowed to take over.”

No excuse for antifa thuggery

“One of the least safe places to be in Berkeley, California, is in the vicinity of someone holding a ‘No Hate’ sign.

“So-called anti-fascist, or antifa, activists bearing shields emblazoned with those words assaulted any of the handful of beleaguered Trump supporters they could get their hands on at a small political rally over the weekend.  All in the cause, mind you, of demonstrating their supposed opposition to hatefulness.

“Too many people were willing to perfume antifa in the wake of Charlottesville, where it clashed with Nazi thugs who caused, and deserved, a wave of national revulsion.  But Berkeley demonstrates once again the true nature of this left-wing movement, which is thuggish in its tactics and totalitarian in its sensibility.  Anyone who at this point makes excuses for antifa—or worse, justifies it—is participating in its moral rot.

“The antifa goons showed up in force at Berkeley at what had been a small ‘anti-Marxist’ rally of Trump supporters at a public park.  Antifa wore its usual fascistic garb of black masks and body armor.  They overwhelmed the police trying to maintain order.

“They then treated suspected Trump supporters with all the decorousness of torch-wielding medieval villagers who believed they had stumbled upon a witch.  A leader of a pro-Trump group had to run from a mob that pepper-sprayed and beat him, until he was taken into police custody for his own protection.  The targets weren’t Nazis bearing Nazi regalia, but supporters of the duly-elected president of the United States. Or people who were guilty of the offense of committing journalism—a reporter was beaten by the antifa cadres.

“Antifa benefited enormously from the horrific events in Charlottesville. It became Nazis versus the people standing up to the Nazis, and in that formulation the people standing up to the Nazis always win.  There can be no moral equivalence, we were told, between Nazis and their opponents.  But that depends on who the opponents are—there is a vast difference between peaceful counterprotesters and violent thugs, even if they are marching on the same side.

“All this was lost in the reaction to Charlottesville.  Liberal commentators spread memes comparing antifa to American GIs who stormed the beaches of Normandy.  The comparison would be apt if the 1st Infantry Division got together to spend an afternoon beating up fellow Americans rather than giving its last measure of devotion to breaching Hitler’s Atlantic Wall.

“There will always be goons who enjoy breaking things and hurting people.  The real scandal is that otherwise respectable people are willing to look the other way or explain away the violence, so long as its perpetrators are on their side.  They are just as cowardly as the mask-wearing antifa thugs who are brave enough to punch and kick people, but not to show their faces.”

I LOVE THESE GIRLS!

“SUCH FOLK WILL BE SOCIETY’S SALVATION”

“I was contacted by the editor of Civil War Times about my thoughts on the removal of monuments that have been erected to honor the men that fought for the Confederacy during the War Between the States.  It is my opinion, and that of many others, that these removals are an attempt to erase history.  If you take the time to read the comments on social media and on the websites of the news organizations reporting these removals it is obvious that only a few people actually support the removals.  What it boils down to is that the politicians are telling those that elected them that their wishes mean absolutely nothing to them.

“Just this week one of these politicians that voted to remove a statue in Virginia lost in the primary for reelection and he noted that his stance on the removal more than likely cost him the election.  In the end what we really have, in my humble opinion, is a group of people who are following their own personal agendas and saying, ‘to hell with the people’ and moving forward with these removals.  It isn’t what we want, it is all about them.”

“We live in an age riven by shrill and intemperate voices, from all perspectives and on most topics.  No sane person today would embrace, endorse, or tolerate slavery.

“A casual observer, readily able to convince himself that he would have behaved similarly in the 1860s, can vault to high moral ground with the greatest of ease.  Doing that gratifies the powerful self-righteous strain that runs through all of us, for better or worse.  In fact, it leaps far ahead of the Federal politicians (Lincoln among them) who said emphatically that slavery was not the issue, and millions of Northern soldiers who fought, bled, and died in windrows to save the Union—but were noisily offended by mid-war emancipation.

“It is impossible to imagine a United States in the current atmosphere that does not include zealots eager to obliterate any culture not precisely their own, destroying monuments in the fashion of Soviets after a purge, and antiquities in the manner of ISIS.  The trend is redolent of the misery that inundated the planet during the aptly named Dark Ages, arising from savages who believed, as a matter of religion in that instance, that anyone with opinions different than their own was not just wrong, but craven and evil, and must be brutalized into conformity.

“On the other hand, a generous proportion of the country now, and always, eschews extremism, and embraces tolerance of others’ cultures and inheritances and beliefs.  Such folk will be society’s salvation.”
