HISTORY, CIVICS, AND PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY PART 1

ONE EXTREME CAN BE WORSE THAN ANOTHER

Our liberty and civility are at risk

“Charlottesville, Virginia, was the scene of a bloody riot Aug. 12.  The fray resulted in the death of one woman, who was mowed down by a car; plus there were many other people injured.  Have politicians and the news media told the complete story about what happened, or have Americans been misled?  Let’s look at it.

“One does not have to accept the racist and nationalistic vision of the Unite the Right organization to recognize its First Amendment rights. Moreover, the group obtained a city permit to hold a peaceful rally to protest the lawful removal of the statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee from Emancipation Park.  It was the leftist protesters who did not have a city permit for a rally.  Virginia Gov. Terry McAullife said:  ‘There has got to be a movement in this country to bring people together.  The hatred and rhetoric that has gone on and has intensified over the last couple months is dividing this great nation.’  He denounced the ‘white supremacists and the Nazis.’  However, when asked a question about whether he would include the left-wing, pro-violence antifa in his condemnation, he ignored the question and walked out of the room.

“Here’s a question for you:  Did the authorities of the city of Charlottesville have a duty to protect Unite the Right rally attendees? Both the Unite the Right organizers and the leftist counter-protesters charged that the Charlottesville police did not do their job.  They just stood back and watched.

“The Daily Caller article titled, ‘Why Were The Police Held Back In Charlottesville?’ reports:  ‘Law enforcement was on hand at the dueling demonstrations on Saturday, decked out in riot gear and looking prepared for the worst.  Except they weren’t allowed to do their job.’ Instead of owning up to his dereliction of duty—by not having ordered his police force to protect life and limb—Charlottesville Mayor Mike Signer chose to demagogue the situation by blaming the rise of white nationalists on President Donald Trump.

“Many politicians, racists, hustlers and tyrants have an agenda that consists mostly of making the U.S. Constitution meaningless and giving government greater control over our lives.  The alt-right and white supremacists seek to achieve their goals through racist propaganda.  The leftists seek to achieve their goals by tricking Americans into believing that all they want are brotherhood and multiculturalism.  If either group achieves its goals, we Americans will lose not only our liberty but also our civility.  Few Americans recognize and respect the fact that multiracial societies are inherently unstable.  What we’ve been doing for decades, through various government policies, is stacking up combustible racial kindling awaiting a racial arsonist to set it ablaze.  There are too many historical examples of what happens to a nation when race hustlers are allowed to take over.”

No excuse for antifa thuggery

“One of the least safe places to be in Berkeley, California, is in the vicinity of someone holding a ‘No Hate’ sign.

“So-called anti-fascist, or antifa, activists bearing shields emblazoned with those words assaulted any of the handful of beleaguered Trump supporters they could get their hands on at a small political rally over the weekend.  All in the cause, mind you, of demonstrating their supposed opposition to hatefulness.

“Too many people were willing to perfume antifa in the wake of Charlottesville, where it clashed with Nazi thugs who caused, and deserved, a wave of national revulsion.  But Berkeley demonstrates once again the true nature of this left-wing movement, which is thuggish in its tactics and totalitarian in its sensibility.  Anyone who at this point makes excuses for antifa—or worse, justifies it—is participating in its moral rot.

“The antifa goons showed up in force at Berkeley at what had been a small ‘anti-Marxist’ rally of Trump supporters at a public park.  Antifa wore its usual fascistic garb of black masks and body armor.  They overwhelmed the police trying to maintain order.

“They then treated suspected Trump supporters with all the decorousness of torch-wielding medieval villagers who believed they had stumbled upon a witch.  A leader of a pro-Trump group had to run from a mob that pepper-sprayed and beat him, until he was taken into police custody for his own protection.  The targets weren’t Nazis bearing Nazi regalia, but supporters of the duly-elected president of the United States. Or people who were guilty of the offense of committing journalism—a reporter was beaten by the antifa cadres.

“Antifa benefited enormously from the horrific events in Charlottesville. It became Nazis versus the people standing up to the Nazis, and in that formulation the people standing up to the Nazis always win.  There can be no moral equivalence, we were told, between Nazis and their opponents.  But that depends on who the opponents are—there is a vast difference between peaceful counterprotesters and violent thugs, even if they are marching on the same side.

“All this was lost in the reaction to Charlottesville.  Liberal commentators spread memes comparing antifa to American GIs who stormed the beaches of Normandy.  The comparison would be apt if the 1st Infantry Division got together to spend an afternoon beating up fellow Americans rather than giving its last measure of devotion to breaching Hitler’s Atlantic Wall.

“There will always be goons who enjoy breaking things and hurting people.  The real scandal is that otherwise respectable people are willing to look the other way or explain away the violence, so long as its perpetrators are on their side.  They are just as cowardly as the mask-wearing antifa thugs who are brave enough to punch and kick people, but not to show their faces.”

A MAP ABOUT WHITE HYPOCRISY

This is a 2013 map of “hate groups” designed by the Southern Poverty Law Center.  The Southern Poverty Law Center’s most recent “Hate Map” is designed differently–maybe its members saw the hypocrisy I’ll soon point out, and corrected it.

The Southern Poverty Law Center isn’t nearly as radical and destructive as the American Civil Liberties Union–though it sometimes allies itself with the notorious ACLU.

Still, the Southern Poverty Law Center is no fan of free speech–and it calls for the censorship of anything politically incorrect (or even not necessarily politically correct).

And the Southern Poverty Law Center is almost always biased toward the political left, and toward political correctness.

There are some exceptions–the Southern Poverty Law Center lists the Jewish Defense League as a hate group.  And the Jewish Defense League is definitely a hate group–though it’s politically incorrect to list it as such.

And the Southern Poverty Law Center lists the New Black Panther Party as a hate group.  The New Black Panther Party is so hateful that members of the original Black Panther Party have unsuccessfully filed lawsuits against it, numerous times, for using the name of their organization.  Nevertheless, it’s politically incorrect to list any Black supremacist group as a hate group.

But the Southern Poverty Law Center deems many groups “hate groups” which wouldn’t be considered hate groups by most people.  Most of these groups are labeled “hate groups” by the Southern Poverty Law Center because they oppose homosexuality, on religious grounds.  And however anyone views homosexuality, no one can deny that homosexuality is condemned in the Torah (Judaism), the Bible (Christianity), and the Qur’an (Islam).  Don’t Jews, Christians, and Muslims have the rights to freedom of religion and freedom of speech?  The Southern Poverty Law Center doesn’t think so.

White hypocrisy is synonymous with White supremacy.

And White hypocrisy infuriates me, most of the time.

But sometimes White hypocrisy amuses me.

And looking at the 2013 “hate group” map above, I couldn’t help but laugh at the blatant White hypocrisy exhibited in the map itself.

The Southern Poverty Law Center primarily fights White supremacist groups.  But the Southern Poverty Law Center is primarily staffed by Whites–and always has been.

It’s similar to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, in this regard.  The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was established by White people who didn’t initially allow any Colored people to run the organization supposedly established for them.

It’s even similar to John Brown, in this regard.  John Brown was a White abolitionist who was responsible for the brutal murders of at least ten people–at least five of whom were unarmed, one of whom was a freed slave, and only one of whom was a slaveholder.  White Abolitionist John Brown led Whites and Blacks on an unsuccessful raid of the armory at Harper’s Ferry, Virginia (the ill-conceived plan was to confiscate the weapons stored there, then use them to liberate slaves–though with no regard for the lives of any White men, women, or children).  But John Brown only allowed other Whites to serve as his lieutenants in the storied raid–because he distrusted the Blacks whose cause he supposedly championed.

The 2013 “hate group” map designed by the Southern Poverty Law Center–which is primarily staffed by Whites, and always has been–shows which states supposedly have the most “hate groups” (and which have the least).  The map is in black and white.  And the darkest states on the map supposedly have the most “hate groups”.  This map could have been in color–the best color arguably being red.  And it’s not likely that the Southern Poverty Law Center avoided using red, in consideration of Native Americans.  It’s likely that the Southern Poverty Law Center avoided using red, in consideration of Communists.

What is certain is that hate groups are considered bad, by most reasonable people–just as love groups (like the colorful bands of flower children of old) are considered good, by most reasonable people.

Only one of the states in the Southern Poverty Law Center’s 2013 “hate group” map is white.  This means that Hawaii is the only state that is free of any “hate groups”–and is therefore the only state that is good.

Conversely, Idaho, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Delaware, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Mississippi are almost black.  This means that these states are rife with “hate groups”–and are therefore bad.

And Montana, Vermont, and Arkansas are black.  This means that these states are bursting at the seams with “hate groups”–and are therefore the worst.

So the totally good state is white.

And the totally bad states are black.

White is good.

Black is bad.

So suggests the Southern Poverty Law Center, in its 2013 “hate groups” map.

The Southern Poverty Law Center–a civil rights group staffed primarily by Whites, since its inception.

Sometimes White hypocrisy amuses me.
